AI will not be inclusive by default

OG lives on both edges of the digital divide: where AI is built and sold, and where the internet has not arrived. Both shape his view of AI.

Two edges

Edge one

Where AI is built and sold

Boardrooms and global stages: GITEX, MWC, VivaTech. This is where the future gets pitched, and where augmented people learn faster and produce more every day.

Edge two

Where the internet has not arrived

Villages in Madagascar, northern Kenya, Komodo Island. People not online yet, some without electricity, still running communities, families and trade at full human speed.

Riding through remote regions, OG did not see people “behind”. He saw presence, patience and strong communities, things hyper-digital cities are losing. The future cannot be hyper-augmented or hyper-human. It has to be both.

AI is an amplifier. It amplifies productivity, expertise and economic competitiveness, for whoever already has access. Without design, the AI era will multiply the divide, not close it.

What OG saw in Kenya

In February 2026 OG spent a week in Kakamega County and Wajir. In Wajir he watched 200 young people graduate from a DigiTruck mobile classroom, six weeks after they first touched a computer. Enrolment at Kakamega County Polytechnic grew 60%, from 465 to 743 students (programme figures).

Technology is the plumbing. Economic participation is the water.

Connectivity is only the entry ticket. Inclusion is real when access turns into income: skills with market value, applications that connect people to buyers, and protection against scams from day one. Read the Kenya case study. Disclosure: the trip was facilitated by Huawei; conclusions are OG’s own.

In practice

  • Design inclusion in: into infrastructure, education, policy and the AI systems themselves.
  • Build the full chain: research, infrastructure, skills, then real use cases tied to real income.
  • AI literacy without digital addiction. Automation without social erosion.
  • Judge programmes on what changes in someone’s life, not on how they look in an annual report.
