The OG Operating System

Why run your life as an operating system

For more than 25 years OG kept large machine systems running, including more than 3,000 software robots at HP and DXC. This is what that taught him about people.

The machines were never the problem

In every incident review, the first explanations were about the surface: the software, the vendor, the timing, bad luck.

Keep asking why, and the root cause was almost always human. A person who was exhausted. People who did not talk, or talked badly. Work that depended on memory and mood. An outcome nobody really owned.

Something small broke lower down. The damage showed up higher up, where everyone could see it.

Output just became cheap

AI made a long list of things almost free: a first draft, a summary, a piece of code, a plan. When something becomes cheap, something else becomes valuable.

When output is cheap, the valuable part is whatever decides what the output is for, checks that it is right, and answers for it when it is not. That is you: the operator.

What AI cannot do for you

  • Sleep for you
  • Own a decision
  • Show up on the boring days
  • Keep the gap between what you earn and what you spend
  • Make people trust you
  • Decide who you are
  • Notice that your life has quietly drifted
  • Tell you what your life is for

That list is the table of contents of the book.

Knowing was never the problem

Any AI assistant will give you the best advice ever written on sleep, discipline, delegation or money, in seconds. Advice is free now.

Most lives still will not change, because most of us already know what to do. What is missing is a way to install it, run it, and repair it when it breaks.

A good system makes consistent behavior the easy path. A bad system needs constant willpower to get the same result.

Same tools, different operators

One kind of person uses AI to remove low-value work, then puts the time back into thinking, resting, deciding and relationships. The other uses it to do more of everything, faster, until they produce twice as much and understand half of it.

The OG Operating System is built for the first kind. See the five layers.
